Water in Fuel Is a Bigger Deal in Florida

Diesel and water do not mix well, and Florida gives water plenty of opportunities to get in. High humidity year-round means condensation forms inside half-empty tanks every time the temperature swings. Daily summer thunderstorms mean water sitting around fill necks, vents and caps. A worn tank cap gasket that would be harmless in Arizona is a genuine problem here.

Water in a modern high-pressure common rail system is not a minor inconvenience. Diesel lubricates the injection components; water does not. Enough of it and you are looking at injector and high-pressure pump damage that costs thousands. The water separator exists precisely for this, which is why draining it should be part of your routine rather than something you do after a warning light.

The other common path is a bad fuel stop. If your truck ran fine, you fueled, and it started running badly within a few miles, tell us that on the phone. It reorders our whole diagnostic approach.

Common Situations We Handle

Losing power on a grade or under load

Classic restricted fuel filter. The engine gets enough fuel to idle and cruise light, then starves when you ask for real power.

Water in fuel light

Drain the separator and pay attention. Ignoring it is how a cheap service becomes an injector and pump replacement.

Ran badly right after fueling

Contaminated or water-heavy fuel from a bad tank. We assess how much of the system is affected before anyone runs it further.

Cranks and cranks, will not fire

Air in the fuel system, usually after a filter change, running out of fuel, or a leak on the suction side letting air in. Priming properly is the fix.

Can you change fuel filters at the roadside?

Yes, routinely, on Freightliner, Volvo, Mack, Peterbilt, Kenworth, International and Western Star trucks with Cummins, Detroit, Paccar, Volvo, Mack and International engines. The important part is priming afterward — a modern diesel with air in the system will crank forever and never fire.

I think I got bad fuel. What now?

Stop running the engine if you can. Every mile pushes contaminated fuel further into an expensive injection system. We will drain the separator, inspect the filters and fuel, and tell you honestly whether a filter change gets you going or whether the tanks need to come out of service.

Can you replace injectors on site?

Sometimes, depending on the engine and the access. Some layouts are very reasonable in a yard; others need a valve cover, rocker work and cleanliness control that is genuinely better in a shop. We will diagnose which injector, then give you a straight answer about where the repair belongs.

Will you deliver fuel if I run out?

Yes, and we will prime the system so it actually restarts. Adding fuel to a diesel that ran dry is only half the job — the air in the lines has to be purged or it will crank without firing.

What does it cost?
