Polk City & the SR 33 Construction Zone
The main interstate access is I-4 Exit 38 at SR 33, and right now that is an active construction area. SR 33 is being widened into a four-lane arterial and Exit 38 is being rebuilt as a dumbbell interchange, with work running roughly from early 2025 into 2029. Lane configurations shift, shoulders narrow, and the ramp layout changes over the course of the project.
That matters if you break down here. A narrowed construction-zone shoulder is a genuinely worse place to sit than the same stretch of road was two years ago. If you can reach a safe spot, do. If you cannot, call 911 before you call anybody else.
The alternative access is I-4 Exit 44 at SR 559, a few miles east, which has a Love's travel stop and much better room to work. When your truck can still move, getting to Exit 44 is often the smarter play.

- SR 559. South to Auburndale and US 92.
- I-4 Exit 41. The Polk Parkway east terminus, just southwest.
- Berkley Road and the local connectors down toward the Auburndale industrial area.
Polk City itself is best known for Fantasy of Flight, the aviation museum that opened here in 1995, and for the General James A. Van Fleet State Trail. It is not a freight destination in its own right — but the interstate running past it very much is.
