Mobile Diesel & Semi Truck Repair in Plant City

Plant City sits just over the Hillsborough line, west of Lakeland, and it is the last real stop before I-4 turns into Tampa metro traffic. We work the interstate exits, the agricultural yards, the packing houses and the industrial parks — day, night and through the strawberry season when everything runs flat out.

Plant City & the I-4 Freight Corridor

Four exits matter here, and they are noticeably different from one another:

  • Exit 14 — McIntosh Road. Technically Dover, just west, but part of the same run.
  • Exit 17 — Branch Forbes Road. Rural and thin on services. The road heads north about a mile and a half to Sam Allen Road. A poor place to sit for long — little shoulder shelter and nothing around.
  • Exit 19 — SR 566, Thonotosassa Road. The main Plant City access, running down to US 92 as Baker Street. Long-running FDOT work in this area.
  • Exit 21 — SR 39, Alexander Street. Straight into Plant City proper and the industrial and packing district.

Beyond the interstate, US 92 runs through as Baker Street and is the standing detour whenever I-4 closes — which on this corridor happens often enough that every local driver knows the route. SR 39 runs north–south, SR 574 heads west toward Tampa, and SR 60 is a short run south for anything heading toward Mulberry and Bartow. Just east, I-4 Exit 25 at County Line Road puts you at the Polk County line and the Amazon facility.

What Breaks Trucks in Plant City

Reefer units under strawberry season load

Plant City is the center of Florida's strawberry industry, and the winter and spring shipping season runs refrigerated units hard. A reefer that quits on a loaded produce trailer is a clock problem, not just a repair problem.

Radiators packed with agricultural debris

Field dust, chaff and plant matter pack radiator and charge air cooler fins on equipment working farm properties. Airflow drops, temps climb, and nothing is actually broken. Cooling repair →

Seasonal equipment coming out of storage

Trucks and trailers that sat for months come back with dead batteries, seized components, dry-rotted hoses and air systems full of moisture. All predictable, all fixable in the yard.

Breakdowns in thin-shoulder stretches

The rural exits west of town have limited shoulder and limited lighting. A night breakdown at Exit 17 is a genuinely poor position, and getting to a safer spot is worth more than saving a short tow.

The climate story is the same as the rest of the corridor: summer heat in the mid-90s cooking cooling systems and batteries, and daily afternoon thunderstorms from June through September finding every unsealed connector and tired air dryer.

What to Tell Dispatch

  1. Where exactly. On I-4, the exit number and your direction of travel — Exit 17 and Exit 21 are very different places to be stranded. In town, cross streets or the facility name.
  2. The truck. Make, model, year, engine, and whether there is a reefer unit involved.
  3. The symptom. What it is doing and any dash codes.
  4. The load. Especially if it is produce with a temperature spec — that changes our priority.
  5. Your position. Travel lane, shoulder, ramp, lot or dock.

Honest pricing

Service call fee plus labor with a roughly two-hour minimum, plus parts quoted separately. Nights, weekends and holidays may carry a premium. You get the service call number on the phone and the repair estimate on site, before any work starts.

Plant City Truck Repair FAQ

Plant City is in Hillsborough County. Do you still cover it?

Yes. Plant City sits right on the I-4 run between Lakeland and Tampa and is squarely inside our coverage. County lines matter for tax collectors, not for breakdowns. Our western edge on the interstate is around Exit 17.

Do you work on refrigerated trailers and reefer units?

We service the tractor, the trailer chassis, and the truck-side systems that keep a reefer running. Deep internal repair on a refrigeration unit itself is specialist work and we will tell you honestly when that is what you need rather than guessing at it on a loaded produce trailer.

I broke down at Exit 17 at night. Is that a problem?

It is not ideal. Branch Forbes Road is rural with limited shoulder and limited lighting. Get as far right as you safely can, hazards on, triangles out, and stay in the cab. If you are in a travel lane, call 911 before you call us — getting the scene protected comes first.

Which truck brands do you service?

Freightliner, Volvo, Mack, Peterbilt, Kenworth, International and Western Star, plus box trucks, straight trucks, reefer chassis and trailers. Engine coverage includes Cummins, Detroit, Paccar, Volvo, Mack and International.
