Mobile Diesel Engine Diagnostics & Repair in Lakeland, FL

We plug in and read what the ECM is actually saying — before anybody buys a part. A code tells you where to look. It does not tell you what to replace.

Why Diagnosis Is the Part Worth Paying For

Anyone with a code reader can tell you a truck has a P-something-something. That is the cheap part. What matters is whether the sensor named in that code actually failed, or whether it is faithfully reporting a real condition somewhere else in the engine.

A low boost pressure code can be a bad sensor, a split charge air boot, a leaking clamp, a turbo with a sticking variable geometry mechanism, a restricted air filter, or an aftertreatment restriction backing the whole system up. Replace the sensor and five of those six causes are still sitting there. That is how people end up buying three parts to fix one problem.

So we scan, then we test. Live data under load, physical inspection, pressure and electrical checks. The goal is one repair that works, not a sequence of guesses billed as progress.

What Happens When You Call

  1. Describe the behavior

When it happens, what changed, whether it is getting worse, and what the dash shows. History matters more than people think.

  2. ETA and rate

Honest arrival window and the service call cost before we dispatch.

  3. Scan and test

Codes, live data, and hands-on verification. We confirm the fault before we quote a repair for it.

  4. Quote, repair, verify

You approve a price, we do the work, then we confirm the fault is gone rather than just the light.

Common Situations We Handle

Check engine light with no obvious symptom

Worth diagnosing early. Half of the derate calls we get started as an amber light somebody drove on for a week.

Cranks but will not start

Fuel delivery, air in the system, a failed sensor telling the ECM not to inject, or a shutdown the truck decided on for its own reasons. Scanning first saves hours.

Low power on a loaded run

Boost leak, turbo, fuel restriction, or an aftertreatment restriction choking the engine. Feels the same from the driver's seat; four different repairs.

Black smoke under acceleration

Too much fuel or not enough air. Restricted intake, boost leak, turbo fault, or injection problem. Also a fast way to plug a DPF.

Rough idle or a miss

Injector, valve adjustment, air in the fuel, or a cylinder-specific mechanical problem. Cylinder cutout testing narrows it quickly.

Intermittent faults nobody can catch

The worst kind. Usually wiring, a chafed harness, a corroded connector or a marginal ground — all of which Florida heat and humidity accelerate.

Why Call Us for Diagnostics

The laptop comes to you

Full diagnostic capability at a truck stop or a DC yard, not just a code reader telling you what you already suspected.

We test before we quote

You get a diagnosis you can act on, and a price for the repair that follows from it — not a parts list.

Honest about shop work

If the diagnosis lands on an in-frame or a transmission, you hear it immediately and you keep the diagnostic report.

Related Work

Diagnostics frequently lead somewhere specific. Aftertreatment faults go to DPF and aftertreatment services. Fuel delivery problems go to fuel system repair. Charging and no-crank faults go to mobile electrical repair. Temperature faults go to cooling system repair. It is one call either way — the categories are for the website, not for you.

Engine Diagnostics FAQ

Which engines and trucks can you scan?

Cummins, Detroit, Paccar, Volvo, Mack and International engines in Freightliner, Volvo, Mack, Peterbilt, Kenworth, International and Western Star trucks, plus medium-duty box trucks. Tell us the make, model year and engine when you call so the right software is loaded before the tech arrives.

I already have the code. Can you just tell me the part?

We can tell you what the code means and what typically causes it, and we are happy to do that on the phone. What we will not do is guarantee that replacing the named part fixes it, because very often it does not. Codes point at symptoms; testing finds causes.

Can you clear codes so I can finish my run?

We can clear codes after a repair, as verification. Clearing an active fault without fixing it just hides a problem that is going to come back, often worse and usually somewhere less convenient. If a fault is safe to drive on we will tell you; if it is not, we will tell you that too.

What if the diagnosis turns out to be a big job?

Then you have an accurate diagnosis and a written summary you can take to whichever shop does the work, which is worth real money by itself. We will tell you plainly that it is beyond mobile scope and help you plan the move.

What does a mobile diagnostic call cost?

Service call fee plus diagnostic labor, with a roughly two-hour minimum. If the repair follows immediately, that time rolls into the job. Parts are quoted separately and approved by you before installation.
