One County, Several Very Different Trucking Worlds

Polk County is not a single freight market. It is at least four, and the trucks in each one break differently.

There is the distribution corridor — Lakeland, Auburndale, Winter Haven, Davenport — where Publix, Amazon, Saddle Creek, Rooms To Go, Walmart and the CSX intermodal terminal generate constant short-run drayage. Those trucks live in stop-and-go and derate from soot loads they never get the highway time to burn off.

There is the phosphate and aggregate country around Mulberry and Bartow, where dump trucks and transfer trailers work rough haul roads at low speed with heavy loads. Suspension, hydraulics and brakes take the beating there.

There is the agricultural belt — Plant City strawberries, the Ridge citrus country around Lake Wales and Haines City — with seasonal produce hauling, refrigerated units and equipment that sits idle for months and then works flat out.

And there is I-4 itself, carrying long-haul traffic between Tampa and Orlando that has no local connection at all — right up until something breaks near Exit 32.

Each town page below is written for the trucks that actually operate there: the real exits, the real routes, the real freight generators, and the failures we genuinely see in that part of the county.

The interstate

I-4 Corridor Coverage

Sixteen exits from Plant City to ChampionsGate, both directions, around the clock. The corridor page lists every exit, what is out there, and where breakdowns cluster on this stretch.

  • Exit 17 Branch Forbes Road through Exit 58 ChampionsGate
  • Both Polk Parkway interchanges — Exit 27 and Exit 41
  • SR 60 from Mulberry east to Lake Wales
  • US 27 from Davenport south through Lake Wales
  • US 92 as the standing I-4 detour route
  • US 98 between Lakeland and Bartow

Not on the list?

Call anyway. These twelve pages cover the towns we work most, not the outer edge of where we will go. Frostproof, Fort Meade, Lake Alfred, Dundee, Eagle Lake, Highland City and the unincorporated stretches in between are all realistic — and we will tell you honestly on the phone if you are outside our range instead of taking the call and disappointing you.

Wherever You're Stopped, We'll Come to You

Give us the town, the road, or the exit number. That is enough to get a truck moving.
